REACH is a unique multidisciplinary educational program aimed at serving students with significant behavioral and/or emotional problems for whom other previous interventions have been ineffective
The Trumbull/Monroe program implements a multidisciplinary team approach. Instructional and counseling staff work with family therapists and other community and private mental health professionals to meet the needs of students and their families.
The primary operating principle of this program is the belief that adolescents experiencing behavioral and/or emotional difficulties are capable of growth and positive change.
The program strives to provide integrated services to the students and their families as follows:
1. Education Planning and Management

Individual and group educational/counseling planning

Academic core courses

Social and life skills competency

Recreational/cultural activities in the community

Inclusion in appropriate school activities

Physical education
2. Case Management Services
Students and their families are assisted in obtaining resources needed.
3. Ongoing Multidisciplinary Assessment
Input is incorporated from the student, parents, teacher, assigned case manager, Pupil Services staff, community - based counselors, and private mental health professionals working with the student.
4. Counseling

Individual - to improve personal coping and learning skills

Group - to develop interpersonal skills, impulse control, and anger management skills.

Family Counseling - to improve the capacity of the family to manage a student’s behavior and assist in modifying behaviors that interfere with learning.
5. Parent Education/Support Services

Program Goals
-
To increase students’ capacity to learn in a less restrictive setting. To increase a students’ academic, social/emotional and interpersonal skills.

To create a structured school atmosphere where useful changes and learning can take place.

To prepare the student and family for transition to other academic environments as appropriate.

To provide support, counseling and behavioral management training for parents of students enrolled in the program.
