Parent Committee Meeting Minutes

Meeting called to order @ 9:00
Minutes were read and motion to accept by Lorraine 2 nd by Maria. .
Reports:
Director:
Matt expressed his gratitude to all the parents that helped with the PTO luncheon. Additionally, he wanted to thank all those involved in getting the newsletter together. Head Start officers were added. PTO minutes are posted on the web site. Upcoming events are :

Fathers Club 2/2/08
The PTO is sponsoring a Mom’s Night Out on 2/1/08. They will also be creating a cookbook for an end of the year fundraiser.
1-2-3 Magic Workshop will take place on 1/28/08.
Treasurer:
The balance in the Parent Fund is $187.81
Health/Nutrition Report:
Due to cold and flu season please make sure all the children are washing their hands on a regular basis.
Nurse Pat will be doing a GERM PRESENTATION in all the classrooms.
Any child that will be going to Kindergarten please make sure you schedule those appointments in advance.
Social Service/Parent Involvement Report:
Miss Alana noted that she sent referrals to all families for Energy Assistance please make sure that the referral form comes back to her filled out by the agency. This is needed for the children’s file.
Christmas Donations:
Please send in thank you notes for the various donations, Alana will forward them to the appropriate parties.
Self Assessment:
Staff will conduct their annual Self Assessment 1/14/08 to 1/18/08 any parent is welcome to attend please just let Miss Alana know your availability.
Donation:
We had a paraprofessional within the building (Siobhan Clancy) make a $100.00 donation to Head Start. We can look at different ideas for a party.
Dad’s Night Out:
Miss Alana is working with Dennis McLaughlin a Social Worker at the High School to plan this workshop again this year. It will take place some time in March or April.
Education/Curriculum:
Mrs. Dubour explained that she & Miss Alana have been working on Kindergarten Transitioning. She has called the schools and will be sending packets home to those families. All Trumbull families will receive information in the mail regarding appointments.
Field Trips:
We will be going to Monroe Post Office on 1/25/08; Mrs. Dubour asked if money could be allotted to buy stamps, she will speak with June so arrangements can be made. This will allow the children the opportunity to mail their cards.
We will also go to Big Y on 2/4/08. A motion was made by Maria to fund each child with $2.00 to buy something seconded by Claudia; if any money was left it will be returned to the Parent committee fund. This will allow each child to buy something.
The Mad Science program is wonderful and the children have been learning so much.
Both classrooms have Miss Claudia for Music & Movement which they enjoy.
We are still looking for volunteers for the classrooms; Aileen’s mom in Mrs. Dubour’s room comes in on Tuesdays and reads to the children in the library. We also received RIF books that were sent home. Additionally we have Books In A Bag that both classrooms will be sending home.
Kindergarten was discussed and the pilot program for full day kindergarten. Lori King explained that included into the budget was 2 full day kindergarten classrooms. She also emphasized that this is based on approval from the First Selectmen and then Board of Finance. Children will be picked based on a lottery system.
Policy Council:
No representatives were present. Report to be given next month.
Policy Committee:
A discussion took place regarding the potential move to Middlebrook School . Parents were extremely unhappy that this could take place. Matt & Alana explained that no final decision has been made at this time. Matt noted he will keep families informed as he gets any information.
