TECEC PTO Meeting

Tuesday, April 8, 2008

 

 

The morning meeting was called to order at 9:35 am; it adjourned at 10:40 am.

The evening meeting was called to order at 7:40 pm; it adjourned at 9:00 pm.

 

 

Old Business:

* T-shirt sales – Yolanda Soto stated that the apparel will arrive prior to the school’s field trip to the Beardsley Zoo

 

 

* Campbell ’s Labels program – 500 points were collected in March 2008; those points will be doubled to 1000 earned points for that month

 

 

* Penny Drive – an additional $25.36 was collected

* The total collected thus far is $226.00

* One parent at the morning meeting suggested the possibility of a local business or company matching the donation that is collected from the students’ families

 

 

* Donation of “1-2-3 Magic” instruction book and DVD – the PTO donated 4 copies to TECEC’s Social Services department

* Dyann Ross, the school’s social worker, asked if it would be possible to exchange 2 of those copies for “1-2-3 More Magic”

* Yolanda Soto said she would look into that request

 

 

New Business:

* Treasurer’s Report – Yolanda Soto stated that the current balance of the PTO bank account is $4160.00

 

 

* Cookbook fundraiser – the PTO received ample recipe submissions for each category

* Meredith Chamberlain, parent, will have her husband’s company make all of the color copies for the cookbook

* The PTO will supply Meredith with white card stock for this portion of the project

* Also, Meredith offered to have one of her husband’s employees bind the cookbooks

 

 

* Scholastic Book Fair – will be held April 23 through April 25, 2008

* The PTO must raise at least $1000.00 in order to maintain a reservation for a spring 2009 book fair

* The books will be displayed in one half of the motor room

(New Business, cont’d):

* An evening of shopping for parents will be offered on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 to coincide with “Chat with Matt”

* A parent at the morning meeting suggested handing out flyers during parent drop-off and pick-up to help promote the book fair

* A raffle will take place during each of the book fair “shifts” (4/23/08 evening, 4/24/08 morning, 4/24/08 afternoon, 4/25/08 morning)

* Each raffle prize will be a gift certificate of a designated dollar amount to be spent during the book fair

* The raffle that takes place the evening of April 23, 2008 will also include a prize of a tote bag which will be supplied by Scholastic Book Fairs

 

 

* Field trip to Beardsley Park Zoo – will take place on April 30 and May 1, 2008

* Additional information and permission slips will follow

 

 

* “Chat with Matt” – will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at 7:00 pm

 

 

* “Coffee & Chat” – will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 7:00 pm

* The guest speaker will be Christine Sloss, a representative from P.A.T.H. ( P arents A vailable T o H elp)

 

 

* Scrapbook project – Yolanda Soto purchased 14 scrapbooks at a cost of $2.99 each at the Christmas Tree Shop

 

 

* TPSLD – next workshop will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 7:00 pm at the Long Hill Administration building

 

 

* Native American Day – will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2008

* A variety of craft supplies were purchased to enhance this enrichment program

 

 

* Year-end Staff Appreciation Luncheon – will be held on Friday, June 6, 2008

* At that time, the scrapbooks that the PTO is currently working on will be presented to the teachers

* A parent at the evening meeting suggested adding a “check-off” for those parents and caregivers interested in donating money in lieu of a food donation

 

 

* Ice Cream Social – will take place on Friday, June 13, 2008 at Madison Middle School

* The PTO has scheduled TECEC’s music teacher, Miss Gabby, to perform that evening

* Craft stations will be set up throughout the cafeteria

(New Business, cont’d):

* Preschool Olympics – tentative date is Wednesday, June 11, 2008

* the day will be divided into two sessions, morning and afternoon, just like a typical school day – children attending morning class will attend morning Olympics programs; children attending afternoon class will attend afternoon Olympics programs

* Matt Wheeler stated that parent participation will be strongly encouraged

* 11 stations will be set up so that each of the 11 classes attending the Olympics will be able to participate in a different activity at the same time

 

 

* Autism Walk – will take place on Sunday, June 8, 2008

* Yolanda Soto would like TECEC to be represented that day

* If the school raises $100.00, each person who participates in the walk will receive a T-shirt

* Yolanda will be attending a reception on Thursday, April 10, 2008 and then reporting back to the PTO at the May 2008 PTO meeting

 

 

Wheeler’s “Words of Wisdom”:

* Matt Wheeler stated that as of now, the Board of Education has not cut any staff or programs at TECEC

* An important Board of Finance meeting will take place at the end of April 2008, and then the final budget will be passed in early May 2008
