Hello parents and visitors to the Hillcrest website;

May I direct you to an exciting update to our website that you should check out by clicking the link below. This is the Instructional Calendar. Many of you remember this from last year as it covered the last two trimesters. This one covers all three trimesters and includes the content and skills which students will be working on in a particular course as well as corresponding priority standards. All courses are covered as the teachers worked extremely hard to explain the key details of a unit. This calendar is not a pacing guide but rather serves as a snapshot of the content and skills that students will be working on throughout the course of the trimester. We find that this tool has been especially helpful not just in creating transparency in the students' learning but also by assisting us in keeping track of the extreme curriculum restructuring brought on by the Common Core State Standards which went into effect this year. As a faculty, we look over the content of the calendar and this helps us to align work by/at the most appropriate times of the year in order to assist with the best practice of reinforcing information to students over the course of a day. Again, this is not the curriculum or the pacing guide but rather a bird's eye view of instruction. Enjoy!

2014/15 School Year Instructional Calendars

Welcome Parents and Students of Hillcrest Middle School

As the school year begins, we are ready to offer you a wonderful array of experiences at Hillcrest Middle School! Parents, I encourage you to continue to stay involved with your child's education throughout this school year as you have over the summer months. I believe communication is the essential component of a truly successful school/parent partnership. During the upcoming year, I invite you to establish a positive line of communication with your child's teachers. Please feel free to contact the school should you have any questions or concerns, as we appreciate your feedback. At Hillcrest, we respect your input and we will assist you in any way that we can. Also, please check our school's web site regularly. Both our school calendar and our instructional calendars will be posted there as well as important announcements and "can't miss" upcoming events. Through the combined efforts of all of the members of our school community, our goal is to prepare our students to be informed, independent thinkers and productive citizens.

Students, I would like to welcome back our returning seventh and eighth graders and welcome in both our sixth graders and new students. For the HMS veteran students, your role will be to model the "Hawk" way for our new Hillcrest members. Your positive actions along with the high character you exhibit while at HMS, will help to make this school one in which we are all proud to call ours! There will be many opportunities for you to grow and shine both academically and socially this year. By entering the school year with a positive mindset that is equipped to embark on an enriching journey you will have a remarkable school year.

Hillcrest Middle School has a tremendously dedicated and talented faculty and staff that are committed to providing your child with an outstanding middle school experience. Our learning approach is to offer a balanced instructional program in a team setting that emphasizes academic integrity while making an emotional connection with the students as they continue to develop social skills. In order to succeed, students, families and staff must work together. We are committed to supporting the whole child and invite you to join in this effort to ensure innovation, creative thinking, intellectual curiosity, academic excellence, thoughtful change, and good citizenship. We are looking forward to seeing and working with you throughout the course of the school year.
