The Curriculum Department exists to support the teaching and learning process. Its members are dedicated to insuring that each child be provided with a full range of opportunities to grow and develop - academically, socially and emotionally. Department members play essential roles in supporting building and district administrators and classroom teachers, in meeting State standards and mandates, and in informing the community about the objectives and achievements of the Trumbull Public Schools.

The Curriculum Department, with its director, program leaders, and associate for staff development and testing, is involved in all aspects of the teaching and learning process. With responsibilities ranging from keeping abreast of the research into how and what students learn, to the best and most cost effective materials for use at each grade level, to integrating technology into the curriculum, the department influences all aspects of the instructional program. Program Leaders' activities and responsibilities are both varied and essential to the progress of the school system and include teaching demonstration lessons, evaluating new materials and strategies, involving the community in curriculum development and implementation, and working with the Connecticut State Department of Education in curriculum and testing projects. The Program Leader provides a continuum for curriculum from kindergarten through the middle school years, and ensures program continuity throughout the District.

Prime among the responsibilities of the Department is the development, review, and revision of curriculum guides. The curriculum guide is a plan, a tool, a road map for teaching and learning. While the guide specifies what is to be taught, it is more than a list of topics. The guide includes learning objectives for students, and strategies and resources for teachers. With the increased availability of technological resources, the guide references software and on-line resources. With the District focus on performance assessment, the guide suggests projects and procedures that may be used to assess student learning.
