Welcome to the 2007-2008 School Year
First I would like to extend a huge thank you to the parents and staff members who assisted in developing and launching the new Booth Hill website!
Together we can make a Difference
We have a population of 511 diverse students. At the core of the school is a strong commitment from the community, parents and staff that all students will achieve the high academic and social goals that will equip them to compete in a rapidly changing and dynamic world. Our goal at Booth Hill is to continue making Booth Hill a learning community for all students, parents, teachers and friends who enter our doors.
Balanced academic curriculum
Here at Booth Hill we provide a wide range of extended learning opportunities. Fourth and fifth grade students enjoy a pay-for-play instrumental music program; third, fourth and fifth grade students participate in a pay-for-play strings program. Our talented and gifted program in fourth and fifth grade offers curriculum enrichment. Beyond these opportunities, students experience an engaging Music, Art, Physical Education and Media Center program.
Preparing our students to achieve academic and social goals
Booth Hill School uses three essential questions:
- What do we want our students to learn?
- How do we know they learned it?
- What do we do if students are not learning?
These questions shape our academic programs; our instructional models and interventions. This year Booth Hill’s academic goals are to continue to expand our district’s Math Investigations program, as well as to expand components of our balanced literacy program. To help reach our goals we have specialists to support students within the classroom setting and in small groups to enhance and improve student learning in all academic areas.
- Reading specialist
- Math specialists
- Special education teachers
- Talented and Gifted teacher
- English Language Learner
Booth Hill believes that the social curriculum and academic learning are inextricably connected and each is equally important. With this belief, all students participate in our Responsive Classroom program where morning meetings introduce the components of greeting, sharing, and group activities to build class cohesion through active participation. This creates a bond among students within their classrooms and creates a community of strong ethical thinkers throughout our school.
PTA and Father’s Club
In close collaboration with the leadership team and staff members, they continue to support the overall functioning of the school and student learning by providing a rich array of activities.
Some of these activities include:
- Supporting our school-wide 20/20 reading incentive program
- Planning school spirit days
- Arranging cultural assemblies
- Fund raising
- Volunteering to assist with reading groups and other classroom activities
- Bingo and Movie nights
- Creating a PTA directory
- Annual Spring barbeque
- Contributing to our website.
As much as I can write about the unique and interesting aspects of Booth Hill Elementary School, I hope you can witness these by visiting our school. I have no doubt that you will feel inspired by our staff, students and community.
Sincerely,
Mr. Dana Pierce
